OWLCAT GAMES was founded in 2016. The studio employs experienced developers who worked on projects such as Pathfinder: Kingmaker, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, and is currently working on titles Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy and The Expanse: Osiris Reborn.
We are looking for an experienced Lead UI/UX Designer with broad approach to game interface development: someone who can not only design great screens, but also bring the UI to polish alongside a team of designers, artists, programmers, and game designers.
We need a leader who understands that in-game UI is not just layouts, but an integral part of the player experience, production, and technical execution.
TASKS:
- Design new interfaces for a hardcore CRPG based on a tabletop RPG system
- Design interfaces for complex game systems featuring heavy text, dense content, multiple states, actions, and consequences
- Maintain and evolve existing project interfaces
- Lead a multi-disciplinary UI team (designers, engineers, artists)
- Work in close collaboration with game designers, artists, gameplay programmers, and QA engineers
- Act as the owner of UI quality across the project
- Handle task planning, estimation, risk management, and quality control for the UI department
- Adapt interfaces for gamepad controls and cross-platform requirements
- Work with player feedback, QA, UX testing, and analytics.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Passion for creating games you genuinely want to play
- Solid gaming background on PC and consoles
- Clear understanding of the UI implementation pipeline within game engines
- Hands-on technical experience inside a game engine (layout, scripting/coding)
- High autonomy, accountability, and the drive to take ownership of features
- Team management and planning experience
- Deep understanding of core UX principles, information architecture, and user flows
- Ability to articulate and defend design decisions based on player experience, game design goals, and project business needs
- Experience designing complex, content-heavy interfaces
- Understanding of typography, information hierarchy, player actions, and systemic feedback/consequences
- Proficiency with graphic design tools
- Strong ability to collaborate with developers and account for technical constraints
- Understanding of modularity, component reusability, and performance optimization
- Russian language skills at B2 level are necessary due to the team’s Russian-language production pipeline and internal communication.
